Launchpad POV – Air Your Message!

[B]eige came up with a cool  POV or Persistence of Vision setup using one of the Value Line chips that came with the Launchpad. Eight LEDs are used to display characters. By displaying columns of a 5×7 character delayed in time and moving the column at a certain speed, you can fool the eye in seeing a full character. The code seems very simple with a few delay functions and display logic. He also created a carrier board for his LEDs from a little perf and headers.

Trying to figure out what to do with the Value Line chips I decided to make a Persistence Of Vision text display, fitting in all the best bits of the ascii table. The font in 5×7 pixels making the it 470 bytes including a smiley.

So if you have eight LEDs and limiting resistors in your junk box, this should work out for you in no time. Code is available on his blog.

Backup: Code.
